Mother's Day/Mudder's Day

My first Mother's Day was just...lovely.

We attended a Gala the evening before which I had helped to organize which ran very late, so Sunday I actually woke up to a silent house - Penny slept over at my mother's, quite happily. This did not, unforunately, allow me to sleep in - we had to attend a brunch with Huzby's family over an hour away at 10, which meant that, allowing for time to pick up, feed and dress the baby, we needed to be up at 7.

7 am. After being out past midnight the previous nights (Cinco de Mayo party on Friday!). Gah.

Even though the child was away, I opened my presents in the morning - one awesome necklace named Sweet Penelope and made out of old vinyl records, a locket with a beautiful tree, moon and bird scene on the front, a board game that I had wanted and the four books of the Hyperion series by Dan Simmons, which I had borrowed from a friend but wanted to own for re-reading purposes. They were all exactly what I wanted.

We picked up Penny, had a lovely brunch and headed back to my Mom's for a very fun party with the cousins on her side. Through it all, Penny was just lovely - beautiful in her pink polka dot dress, happy, smiling, posing for pictures and giving me such joy at being a mother.

Then we got home.

It took two hours for her to fall asleep, then woke up extremely ticked at midnight and again at 5:30 due to a too cold house. She slept from then on in our bed, which meant that I slept only lightly. Today has been a rash of screaming, 15 minute long naps and general desire to just curl in a ball and wake up tomorrow. And that is just me.

Is it some rule that I missed that Mother's Day is followed by Mudder's Day?
